Among the mumbled plumes of destiny
We seek out a life of our own,
We strive to find ways to be,
And sometimes life stands against us.
The gentle timelessness of dust...
Upon window sills and tombs,
Cool air lingers without a breath,
Silent time passes from within us all.
And as Time eludes us,
Wholly with the passing confusions,
We drift aging and fully learning,
In the shadow of the past Royals.
As reasons scatter and fall like leaves in autumn
We ponder and sink in pensive depth,
The diverse connections we behold,
The family lines that spread like roots.
Among the mumbled plumes of destiny,
The great architect has greater plans than us -
The mere mortals, on this plain of existence,
All scrambling and yearning for meanings.
And what if the light dies away?
And what if the sea dries to dust?
We carve out our tombs from the rock,
And there we shall dwell till the end.
I've seen things that have no answer,
My own eyes - shadows and spectres,
And as Time eludes us,
We drift in the shadow of our past families.
We strive to find ways to be,
As reasons scatter and fall in pensive breath,
Like memories in caves half forgotten,
And the movement of something in the corner of your eye.
And I am drawn in and submerged,
Lost in the thick swirling currents of history,
That surround me and caress me,
They tell me secrets I cannot translate.
Silent undercurrents of deep emotion,
That holds the true behind the real,
And still, we must seek out a life of our own
Among the mumbled plumes of destiny.
